Fees and costs

School Dues

School dues and contributions are levied at the start of each term and due by the end of the third week of each term.

There are three components to the school's dues:

  • Catholic Attendance Dues

    Attendance Dues are a compulsory payment under the terms of the Private Schools Conditional Integration Act 1975 and a condition of enrolment at St Joseph’s School, Orakei. Attendance Dues are charged for all students who attend Catholic Schools in New Zealand.

    Attendance Dues are used to repay loans for building works done at schools in the Auckland Diocese, property related costs including school building works, buildings insurance and costs directly associated with the administration of attendance dues.  

    Attendance Dues are collected by St Joseph’s on behalf of the school’s Proprietor, the Roman Catholic Bishop of Auckland. The attendance dues collected by St Joseph’s are forwarded to Auckland Common Fund Limited, a company established by the proprietors of Catholic integrated schools in the Diocese of Auckland responsible for the collection of attendance dues.

    Attendance Dues payable for 2017 school year: (2017 Fees Letter)

    Primary

     Y0 – Y8                     $105.00 per term ($420.00 per year) including GST

    Attendance Dues can be paid in full at the beginning of the school year, per term or by regular instalment.

    NOTE: Attendance dues are approved by the Minister of Education, under Section 36 of the Private Schools Conditional Integration Act, 1975, in respect of the group of schools forming part of the Proprietors Co-operative, Diocese of Auckland. The dues are to be applied to the group of schools solely for the authorised purposes under Section 36.

  • St Joseph’s School Contribution is a voluntary contribution which assists the school to pay the day to day costs not covered by Government funding. We rely on your donation to provide many things the children enjoy including teacher aide hours, ICT equipment and curriculum resources. (Tax deductible).

  • Special Character Contribution

    The Catholic Special Character contribution is a voluntary donation of $12.50 per term ($50.00 per annum) per student.

    This contribution provides the main source of funding for all services provided to St Joseph’s by the Catholic Education Services Board.

    No contributions are made by the Government for these services.

    The Catholic Education Services Board assists schools to provide a Catholic education for your child through the preservation and enhancement of the Catholic Special Character in our schools. 

    NOTE: Financial Contributions collected on behalf of the Proprietor are raised in terms of Section 37 (1) of the Private Schools Conditional Integration Act 1975 (Tax deductible).

Any family struggling to pay their dues because of financial hardship is encouraged to speak with the principal as the Auckland Catholic Diocese operates hardship and sponsorship schemes to assist families. See below for more details.

Other Learning Costs

At the start of each year there are additional charges for stationery, athletics, swimming lessons, learning activities and trips, and the Religious Education Programme.

School Attendance Dues Sponsorship Scheme

The Attendance Dues Sponsorship Scheme - has been created to assist families who may need financial support with the payment of attendance dues, for students attending Catholic schools in Auckland Diocese, both primary and secondary.

The purpose of the sponsorship scheme is to allow parents or caregivers facing financial hardship another option to seek relief where they may be reluctant to approach their school for help.

The existing financial hardship scheme - operated by the school - is also available to parents or caregivers facing hardship and we do encourage families facing financial difficulties to please contact your school office.

NOTE: Applications to the sponsorship scheme for 2015 attendance dues will be accepted by the Auckland Common Fund Ltd up to November 2015.
