Children are released for play once they have finished their lunch. The grounds are supervised at all times, including morning break and lunch. Junior school children's supervision ensures the younger children eat and drink at the designated breaks.
Home learning is a good way for parents to understand what is happening in the classroom and to assess your child's progress. Home learning reinforces your child's daily learning. We encourage you to spend time with your child discussing their time at school and assist them in learning how to budget their time to complete their homework.
Meetings with Teachers
There are both formal and informal opportunities to meet with teachers so that you have a clear view of school activities and your child’s performance.
Parent - Teacher - Child learning discussions are held in terms one and two. These structured meetings provide the opportunity to meet with your child’s teacher to discuss your child's learning progress and goals, and any concerns you or the teacher may have.
You will be informed of the structure and timing of the formal meetings well in advance.
The teaching team welcome parents/caregiver's direct interaction. They are happy to be available by appointment to discuss your child's progress. A child's welfare is our primary concern and any issues raised will be immediately addressed by either the class teacher or the Principal. An appointment can be made through a note to the teacher or a phone call to the school. Many parents take the opportunity to visit their child’s classroom in the morning before the school day starts and the teachers make every effort to be in the classroom each morning to interact with children and their parents as they look through their child’s work.
At St Joseph’s we aim to promote positive actions, which show respect for self and each other and our environment.
We will show students that we have faith in their ability to make the right choices and encourage accountability and responsibility. We will model fairness and justice and take time to investigate each situation. Consequences will encourage positive choices in order to rebuild relationships, change behaviour and make amends.
Jesus will be our model of forgiveness and we will promote our school Charism of ‘Strength with gentleness’.
Our school rules were formulated by our 2011 year 5 and 6 students.
- Be kind to everyone
- Play with care and help one another
- Listen to teachers
- Use manners
- Keep our school clean and tidy
- Look after our trees
- Look after our own and other people's property
- Wear the correct uniform
Do You Have a Concern?
Parents are encouraged to first discuss any concerns they may have regarding their children’s education with the class teacher concerned. (Please make an appointment to ensure a mutually acceptable time outside of normal class hours). If after your meeting you feel you need to discuss issues further, please contact the Principal. Where you still have concerns, you may write to the Chairman of the Board of Trustees, where the matter will be addressed in accordance with the school's complaints procedures.
